The Villa Arthus Bertrand
A haven of peace that invites you to relax
As you will with the island, you’ll find yourself quickly falling under the spell of the Villa Arthus Bertrand. Here, in the midst of a well-established palm grove, this former château that has been sensitively converted into a hotel welcomes you, your family and your friends to an exceptional setting in the heart of the Bois de la Chaise.
From the first glance, you will be fascinated by the extensive wooded park, the beauty of which will help to make your stay magical. The spacious reception rooms, the restaurant and the library open onto a large sunny terrace where you can enjoy some quiet leisure time in the shade of parasols. The swimming pool, the Japanese pavilion and the relaxation areas are sheltered by palm trees and hundred-year-old holm oaks whose spreading branches offer a cool retreat from the heat of the Vendée sun. The peace of this garden is an invitation to take it easy that you’ll find difficult to resist.
In a tastefully revisited Victorian style, the house bears witness to the family’s past as a publisher of travel books since 1797 and the official publishing house for the French Ministry of the Navy. This passion for the sea and naval history can be seen in the painstaking decor of the 18 large rooms.
The restaurant of the Villa Arthus Bertrand invites you to discover simple and tasty dishes prepared by our chef, whose local and Vendée cuisine is sourced from the offerings of the island’s fishermen and market gardeners.
Having passed through the gates of the Villa, you will soon find yourself so enchanted by the warm, friendly, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere of the place that you’ll never want to leave ...
